What is Cold Laser Therapy?

Cold laser therapy for dogs and cats employs low-intensity lasers or light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to alleviate pain, stimulate and improve cell function, and improve healing.

In dogs and cats, cold laser therapy can be used as part of a multimodal treatment to help with inflammation, pain and their natural healing process.

Since cold laser therapy doesn't involve medications itself, it can safely be used in conjunction with prescription medications and supplements as part of your pet's overall treatment plan with our risk.

The Cold Veterinary Laser Therapy Treatment Process

Cold laser therapy treatment entails the back and forth movement of a handheld laser wand over the area of your pet's body that is experiencing a health issue.

The area being treated will feel pleasant and warm to your pet, and it will likely be relaxing. Our veterinary hospital's cold laser therapy sessions last about 20 minutes. Each treatment is tailored to your pet's individual needs.

How Cold Veterinary Laser Therapy Works

Depending on the specific issue being treated, our veterinarians will concentrate the light from our cold laser over affected tissue for anywhere between 8 and 30 minutes.

In a process known as photo biotherapy, laser therapy stimulates cells by emitting light. Phototherapy improves cell strength by promoting cell metabolism and protein synthesis.

It stimulates cells, which reduces pain signals to nerves, improves blood circulation, and releases endorphins.

How Cold Laser Therapy Feels

During laser treatment for dogs or cats, they will only feel a slight tingling around the treated area. Your pet will feel less inhibited by their ailment after each therapy session.

It's critical that you remember your pet's treatment plan will be unique to their needs. While some pets will experience relief within as few as 3 sessions, others will require weekly sessions for longer until their condition improves.

When you choose laser therapy as your pet's treatment method, the veterinarian will discuss a regimen that will benefit your pet the most.
